Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is completing procedures process to participate in the regional project “Supporting Implementation of Environment-Related Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Asia and the Pacific”.
The project aims to address capacity needs of developing member countries (DMC) to implement environment-related SDGs. Using the Mainstreaming, Acceleration, and Policy Support implementation guidance as a framework and guided by DMCs’ priority needs, the project will (i) conduct a stocktaking and review study on the integration progress of environment-related SDGs to national policies and plans, (ii) develop a set of technical guidance materials to adapt environment-related SDGs and targets to national and local contexts, (iii) undertake activities—applying the technical guidance materials—to develop recommendations for integrating environment-related SDGs in national plans and policies in three pilot DMCs, and (iv) disseminate lessons on integration and build DMCs’ capacities to use the technical guidance materials.
In supporting the integration of environment-related SDGs, the TA will identify and support innovative approaches to implementing these SDGs through two outputs. In the output 1, the activities include regional stocktaking and review, technical guidance materials, and knowledge-sharing workshop. The TA will conduct a stocktaking and review of (i) efforts to integrate environment-related SDGs into national and subnational policies, plans, and programs, early lessons, and capacity needs; (ii) regional- and country-level support activities by development partners; and (iii) knowledge partnerships. The review will also identify barriers to mainstreaming these SDGs in national policies and plans. Activities in the output 2 comprise of recommendations for mainstreaming environment-related Sustainable Development Goals in three pilot developing member countries and dissemination workshop. Building on output 1, and focusing on environment-related SDGs and DMCs’ priority targets, the TA will undertake activities applying the technical guidance materials in three pilot DMCs. Potential pilot DMCs will be identified in consultation with regional departments and/or country directors and DMCs, and criteria—to be developed under output 1—will be used in selection.
ADB will be the executing agency of the TA. The TA will involve collaboration with regional departments and sector and thematic groups to develop technical guidance materials and implement activities in three DMCs. The TA is implemented from November 2016 to October 2019.
